Steelpan Drums and Google Doodle
What’s that sound? I like it!
The first time she heard steelpan drums was the first month that she felt like she wasn’t numb. Her husband had left that year. She was left with two small children under ten years old. The pain and transition was visible on her face.
When she accompanied us to the park that day in the new city environment, the PTSD of being a new single parent registered immediately— all that meant — no job, little money, new environment.
Steelpan drums brought out a smile
The first smile that I had seen since meeting her was a refreshing sight that music invigorated her. Never had she heard the sound of steelpan drums.
They look like little and big barrels. History tells us more about those happy sounds.
