God Called Your Name Before You Were Born

When God calls people, there seems to be a pattern throughout the Bible. By reviewing Jeremiah 1:4–9 (NIV), we can identify four specific signposts.

First, God planned your life before birth. In verse 4, we read, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Next, Jeremiah objects and feels inadequate. “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”
Then God’s’ rebuttal promises protection. “…Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you.”
Finally, God intervenes. “Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put my words in your mouth.’”
