There will be more developments in the generative AI space for the foreseeable future, and they’ll become available rapidly. It was 2 years from GPT-2 (February 2019) to GPT-3 (May 2020), 2.5 years to ChatGPT (November 2022), and only 4 months to GPT-4 (March 2023).

Chat GPT will change the world

Predictions when ChatGPT-3 was introduced at the end of November in 2022 sent some shockwaves through the news media. Historians across the world verified that it was a game-changer, like email was decades ago. How many areas does ChatGPT affect? Language in particular. Words matter. The way we teach English composition will obviously change.

As a former English teacher, I envision that ChatGPT will change the way that English composition is taught. Ideas can be evaluated, reviewed, with prompts to “correct this for grammar, spelling, and readability.” Critical thinking skills will become even more important.

Even Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy supports the experimentation for uses in education in this short video to lauch a GPT-4 powered learning guide.

There is hope

Not only is there hope for ChatGPT to enhance education for students, Sal Khan invites innovation and review in “Creative Destruction… GPT-4 meets Sal Khan | ASU+GSV 2023.” Some of the feedback from students on that page indicates hope.

This is massive. This is going to make such a huge change to so many students. I wish I had something like this in school. So exciting and inspiring! thank you Sal for your insights and for pushing forward on positive educational AI tool development
